Now that summer is officially coming to an end, I’m looking forward to fall weather and fall events happening in the Boulder Area. Is everyone ready for pumpkin everything and the leaves changing? Now is a great time to take a walk through the community, enjoy nature, and maybe even some art! We are still seeing events having to change and adapt due to the current pandemic, and some are unfortunately still canceled. But, we will still be able to enjoy some amazing fall events happening in the community around us. For some ideas of what’s happening, this month read my Boulder Area September Community insider.
Boulder Area Community Pop Up Art
I have always loved the art around town. Especially the statues of the kids and the biker next to Purple Park. Well, just recently, there has been even more art around town. Superior has “pop up art” all over town. It first started with what looked like houses on stilts and on islands in the pond at Purple Park. Next, I took a few pictures, one of Jeanne Mitchell with her prairie dog (we have several all over town and a map with prairie dog pop-up art sites so that residents can bike/walk to see them all around town). See how many you can find and take pictures with! Each prairie dog is painted differently by different artists. Jeanne Mitchell of Machine Made Design, painted her prairie dog with a coral reef because she had heard that the prairie dogs are a keystone species, and like fish rely on the coral reef, over 160 native birds and animals depend on the food and shelter that prairie dog colonies provide.
While I was taking pictures of Jeanne with her prairie dog next to the town hall, I saw a group of painters, members of the Plein Janes, part of the Louisville Art Association, out at one of our parks, painting the scenery. I just love how Louisville and Superior are finding ways to enhance our lives, increase our sense of community, and encourage the whole community through art. I encourage you all to get out and walk around and take a look at this amazing talent and artwork that is spread out all over the city for us to enjoy! It’s an amazing way to get together with family and friends and explore our great city!
BOLDiTude Labor Day 10K – Virtual
This event is usually the kick-off to summer in the Boulder Area. It was postponed to Labor Day weekend, but for the safety of our community, they have decided to cancel this event. They are still wanting you to join in this year and do this 10K virtually and you have the whole month of September to complete it! Starting September 4th and ending on September 20th. They are encouraging you to run, walk, or jog a 10k, and registration for this event is free. There will still be prizes to give out, so check out their website for more information! Click here to register!
Buffalo Bicycle Classic
This event is fantastic and one of the largest scholarship fundraising events in the State of Colorado! It is more than just a bike ride, 375 Buffalo Bicycle Classic scholars have graduated from CU Boulder. This event has raised more than $3.3 million for high-merit/high-need scholarships for Colorado high school graduates since this ride was created in 2003. They didn’t want to miss out on a chance to still raise money and help graduating students have a chance at a great future. This year’s event will look a lot different as it will be a virtual do it yourself ride. They are still asking you to get out there and ride for a great cause so they can raise money for these scholarships! For more information or how to donate to this event click here!
