January Community Insider Boulder Area

Happy New Year! We made it through 2020!!! Boulder County just downgraded from level Red to Orange, meaning that restaurants and gyms are now open but at limited capacity. Thankfully, there are still several events happening, many of them virtual, so take a look at my January Community Insider for the Boulder Area.

Superior Cash Expires January 15th

The Town of Superior has initiated the Superior Cash program that has delivered two $10 certificates, redeemable like a gift-card, to each residence in Superior for use at a wide range of participating local businesses. With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to impact our economy and the ability of retailers and restaurants in our community to operate, shopping local is an important way to support our neighbors and local businesses. These certificates expire January 15th! So make sure you go out and support your local businesses before it is too late! If you don’t want to use them yourself, please consider dropping them by a participating business as a donation.

Grasso Lights!

Visit the lights shows at Grasso Park, 100 E. William Street, in Superior from dusk until 10 p.m. now through April 30, 2021. You can download Spotify on your device and find the playlist, or look for QR Code on the signage at Grasso Park, scan the Code with your device’s camera to be taken to the Spotify playlist. If you want, you can take and post selfies to #superiorcolorado to be entered to win prizes! The Mystical Nights Classic Holiday Lights are up until January 14th. Starting January 15th the light show will be Winter Blues!

Musical Entertainment with CU Music

CU Music has two different musical events happening virtually in January that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home. Both events are streamed online and are free or pay what you want. So if you enjoy this and want to continue supporting the arts, consider making a donation!

Firstly, The Eklund Opera Program brings the Brothers Grimm to the Music Theatre with Humperdinck’s decadent opera “Hansel and Gretel.” Indulge your imagination as you join two children venturing into the woods in search of something sweet to eat. With deliciously rich orchestration, simmering wit, and a sumptuous witch hiding out in a candy-coated cottage, this famous fairy tale is delightful at any age.

Or if you want to enjoy something slightly different, you can view #LIFE, a musical review starting January 22nd. In this musical review of compositions by Steve Marzullo and Michael Gruber, College of Music performers ask themselves and the audience about life’s frustrations. What is our outlook toward the future? How do we keep smiles on our faces? How do we maintain hope? As in the real world, “#Life” explores the ways we survive and thrive in the face of obstacles.

Your New Year’s Resolutions

If getting in shape is one of your new year’s resolutions and you live in Lafayette then you are in luck! Lafayette’s Recreation Center has gone virtual. They have virtual live and recorded activities to support your health and wellbeing so you can stay healthy, fit, and motivated. Check out their page for the full list of classes they offer. And if getting in shape isn’t your thing, but learning a new skill is, they also have you covered. There are guitar lessons to take virtually as well! Gyms are reopening at limited capacity as well.
